A message from Dr. Michelle Remington
Welcome back after the spring break! We are excited to be back in session with many learning activities across the school. The Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) was a huge success with many collaborations, speakers, and activities for students in all divisions.
Students have been hard at work since their return in January, engaging in learning activities such as the science fair, personal project and senior exams. Recently, our secondary students have enjoyed a few days of fun at sports day before heading off to spring break.
Our co-curricular activities continue to enjoy robust participation across all divisions and we will look to offer more activities to meet the growing demand. The elementary sports league has taken off with great participation from students and parent volunteers. We thank the teachers and parents who are supporting this activity. In Secondary School, our students met with great success at the recent SAIKAC tournaments, bringing home gold in the girls’ U19 badminton and U19 girls’ football. We are also proud of our Model United Nations (MUN) program, which hosted over 600 delegates last week for our largest conference ever. These events are the ones that students remember the most when they leave school. They teach them the necessary skills for life such as negotiation, diplomacy and sportsmanship.
For years TKS has encompassed three divisions: Kindergarten, Elementary and Secondary. Next year, the school will become four divisions and Secondary will shift into two divisions. The Middle School will be Grades 6-8 and the High School will be Grades 9-12. You can read more about our plans in the Secondary section.
In February, we were fortunate to host both Dr. Robert Blanchard, the incoming High School Principal and Dr. Ron Lalonde, the incoming Middle School Principal for a transition week. We hosted a meet-and-greet where parents and students were able to hear about their background and hopes for the future of TKS. During this transition visit, they met with the current administrators, teachers, operations team members, and students. We are focused on ensuring a smooth transition for all students and families as we plan for this change in August.
TKS has continued to gain recognition across the region for many of our outstanding programs. As word has spread, we are getting more and more requests to host visitors and share our best practice approaches. Last year, many of these visits came via our Saudi Advancement Department and we hosted a variety of schools who were interested in learning more about our IB Programs and our Reggio Emilia-inspired approach to play-based learning in the Kindergarten.
This year, the requests have grown so great it has been hard to accommodate them all. We have hosted local schools and organizations, as well as some of the most reputable international schools and universities in the region, including Dar AlHekma University, MISK Foundation, American International School of Riyadh and the American Community School of Abu Dhabi. We are looking forward to a visit from the American School of Doha later this fall. They have been most interested in learning about our Kindergarten, our Learning Support Program and our IB programs.
