A message from Dr. Michelle Remington
The school year is off to a great start! As I write, TKS enrollment is 1866 students, more than 100 students larger than we were last year. The energy that can be felt on our campus is contagious. This year, we’re focused on continuing progress with our ambitious strategic plan, specifically focussing on the three core areas of learning, well-being, and engagement.
In the area of learning, our primary focus is on purposefully planning. This planning process begins with identifying the concepts that the units are based on and then incorporating the elements from IB framework and the recently adopted standards and benchmarks. This year, we continue our focus on incorporating student learning data into that planning process, so that we plan with all students in mind and what each child needs to grow in their learning.
In the area of well-being, we’re ensuring that all classes K1 to Grade 5 have daily class meeting time and our Grades 6-12 have weekly class meetings to discuss topics that are important to them. This participation and ownership of their learning and their school community helps to create a safe and welcoming place for each child.
As we look at engagement, we are thrilled with the increase in student activities on offer this year, through our enhanced co-curricular programs led by John Amosa, Jorge Rodriguez, and Daan Sengers. We also have a lot to celebrate with our partnerships with KAUST. Students are continuing into the second year of the internship program, now titled “WISER”, and we continue our close partnership with CDA as we launch our Edible Education program this fall. There are so many other points of intersection and collaboration between TKS and the University, it would be impossible to list them all here.
This time of year is a busy one as we start to recruit teachers to TKS for the 2023-2024 academic year. To give candidates a taste of life at TKS, we created a video, which you can watch by scanning the QR code opposite or viewing from this link. Thanks to everyone who took part!
We are proud of the accomplishments that the school has made and at the same time we are focused on our continuous improvement. We will be sending a survey to parents, students and teachers in November and we encourage everyone to participate. This will help us to recognize the areas to celebrate as well as the areas to focus on in our next round of strategic planning.
